Southern Region of Kosovo

Southern Region of Kosovo represents a very attractive area for visitors due to the fact that possesses a prosperous treasure of touristic attractions, that manifests with the hospitable population, glorious history and diversified nature. Combination of all these values offers the tourists a unique experience that feels best with the warmth of the people, with the presence of numerous monuments of the cultural and historical heritage as well as natural features that allow relaxation in clean environment. Southern Region of Kosovo it is consisted of six Municipalities: Prizren, Suva Reka, Dragash, Orahovac, Malisheva and Mamusha, where the different ethnicities are living such as: Albanians, Serbs, Bosnians, Turks and RAE that fulfills the rich cultural and linguistic mosaic of this area. Six municipalities all together represent one quarter of the territory of Kosovo. This region borders with Albania and Macedonia. Its topography is mixed with high mountains, heaps, valleys and fields. In this part of Kosovo, even if the middle continental climate prevails, the Mediterranean climate also significantly affects, which penetrates by virtue of the White Drin Valley, the river that runs through the several Municipalities of the southern region. In this region lies a considerable part of the Sharr Mountains, which reach elevations up to 2750 meters with numerous mountain lakes. The special area that carries rare natural values is the National Park "Sharr". Different and specific characteristics of certain elements of the natural environment and relations between them offer the special relaxation, education and recreation conditions. The National Park "Sharri" was asserted as such in order to protect the bio-diversity of flora and fauna as well as the beauty of natural landscapes. The unique geographical position, rare natural resources, considerable objects of cultural and historic heritage as well as the highly diversified folklore makes the southern region of Kosovo as one unique and attractive destination for tourists.
Municipalities
The space along Mirusha River is a wonderful touristic jewel of Malisheva. Cave of freshness in Panorc Village, located near Mirusha River, is another touristic treasure of this municipality. Until now, only 945 m of this cave are explored. With the beauty they have, stalactites and stalagmites fascinate every visitor. Some interesting places to visit are: Swimming pool in Banja Village, the bridge of Rabaxhi's in Bubel Village, Berisha Mountains in Berisha Village, Graveyard of Martyrs in Malisheva and Kleçka Village, etc.
Rahovec, an old and historic town of Kosovo, is located in the heart of the country, and has a very rich and beautiful landscape, surrounded by many vineyards and the beautiful scenery of the Albanian Alps and Sar Mountains. Now, it is your responsibility to plan a vacation where you can try the delicious wine that is produced here and experience the nature while walking in different parts of Rahovec. Walking in during day is a real fun, and after it trying the delicious food and the Class- Balkan wine.
Prizren as one of the beauty pearls of Kosovo has what to offer to its visitors. The favorable geographic location, wealth of natural resources, numerous cultural and historical monuments, folk and traditions of hospitality are the base of tourism development of the Prizren. As it is one of the richest cities classified for its historical and cultural values, Prizren proves that it is a city dating from the early Byzantine and along Ottoman Empire. Prizren contains more than 30 mosques, several churches, memorials, shrines, castle, Leagues of Prizren, which are worth to be visited by tourists.
Mamusha is a small town where Turks, Albanians and Roms live respecting each other's culture. As a municipality, it gained its autonomy in 2007, just because of the specifics it has. People, who live there, work diligently in agriculture and trade. As this is a feature of it, annual festival celebrating the production of tomatoes is held, with the name “Festivali i domateve”- Tomato festival. People use this festival to visit and enjoy the touristic characteristics of Mamusha, especially the “Sahat Kulla” – Clock Tower, which proudly holds the memories of the history.
Dragash has two specific regions, Opoja and Gora where Albanians and Bosniaks/Gorans live togather. Ancient heritage of traditional clothing and natural beauties make every visitor feel pleasant. We especially mention the beauty of nature to those who love walking in nature. Where nomadic life is interlaced, and beauty of nature amazes each visitor, the abundance of traditional Opoja and Gora food, the high mountains of Sar with its clean air make you feel fresh. Dragash nature is truly amazing.
Suhareka is a pretty important center because it lies on the road connecting Pristina, Prizren ,Rahovec and Ferizaj. In the past, it was also an important station on the old road Shkoder - Kosovo, so thanks to this it had a function of economic and administrative center of Prizren's Podrima. Historic features are those that characterize the tourism of this city. Suhareka belongs to Dardan cultural group that took place over 8th-4th centuries BC. Culture, folklore and the preservation of traditional clothing are also touristic features of the old town of Suhareka.
